USAC margins rise as Philadelphia Energy Solutions shutters plant
US Atlantic Coast refining margins moved sharply higher after a June 21 fire cut rates at the 335,000 b/d Philadelphia Energy Solutions (PES) refinery, pulling up Northwest European margins in its wake, an analysis from S&P Global Platts showed Tuesday
The fire was in an alkylation unit -- which makes blending components to add octane gasoline -- and was the second fire in a month. The company decided to shutter the plant July 1, cutting about 150,000 b/d of gasoline from regional supply.
Cracking margins for USAC refineries running North Sea crudes rose during the week ended June 28, with the PES fire impacting gasoline output.
