FERC issues draft EIS for Kinder Morgan’s Gulf LNG
US Gulf LNG export project proposed for the Jackson County, Mississippi, has been issued a draft environmental impact statement (EIS) by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
The commission said in its filing that the approval of the proposed project, with the mitigation measures recommended in the EIS, would have some adverse environmental impacts; however, these impacts would be avoided or reduced to less-than-significant levels.
FERC has also invited public comment Gulf LNG, a Kinder Morgan company, proposes to export domestically produced LNG to free trade agreement (FTA) and if approved non-FTA nations.
The project would allow Gulf LNG to liquefy domestic natural gas supplies for the export of up to 10.85 million metric tons per year (mtpy) of LNG during the life of the facility.
Gulf LNG requested that the maximum size of LNG carriers authorized to use the berthing facility be increased from 170,000 cubic meters to 208,000 cubic meters, however, the company has not requested the number of LNG carriers permitted for the current facility (150 per year) to be changed.
