Natural Gas Ends at Highest Since 2018
Natural gas prices roar again, closing the session up 5.4% at $4.615/mmBtu, the highest closing price since Nov. 29, 2018. The run-up in prices, which are now more than 75% higher year-to-date, is being driven by a late-summer heatwave sweeping through the middle part of the country, combined with weaker offshore gas production due to Hurricane Ida. What's more, LNG export facilities in Louisiana seem to have weathered the storm. Meanwhile, investors are shrugging off continued, storm-related power outages in and around New Orleans on the bet that they won't have a huge impact on nationwide gas demand from electricity plants.
