Baker Hughes: US rig count down 1 unit to 456
The US drilling rig count decreased by 1 unit to reach 456 rigs working for the week ended June 4, according to Baker Hughes data. The count is up 172 units from the 284 rigs working this time a year ago.
The number of rigs drilling align="justify"> US oil-directed rigs were unchanged from last week at 359. This time a year ago, 206 units were drilling for oil. Rigs targeting gas decreased 1 unit to 97, 21 more than were drilling for gas at this time a year ago.
Of the major oil and gas-producing states, New Mexico saw the largest increase. A 2-rig gain brought the rig count to 73 for the week.
Texas dropped 2 rigs to reach 216 running for the week. Louisiana’s rig count fell by 1 unit week over week.
Ten states remained unchanged this week, namely Oklahoma, 28; Pennsylvania, 17; North Dakota, 16; West Virginia, 11; Ohio, 10; Colorado, 9; Utah, 9; California, 6; Wyoming, 4; and Alaska, 4.
Canada’s rig count increased by 15 units to 77 rigs drilling for the week. The count is 56 more than the 21 units drilling this week a year ago. At 43 units, Canada’s oil-directed rig count increased by 15 units for the week. The gas-directed rig count in Canada is unchanged at 34.
