Baker Hughes: US rig count up 7 units to 439
The US drilling rig count increased 7 units to reach 439 rigs working for the week ended Apr. 16, according to Baker Hughes data. The count is down 90 units from the 529 rigs working this time a year ago.
The number of rigs drilling US oil-directed rigs were up 7 rigs from last week at 344 units. This time a year ago, 438 units were drilling for oil. Rigs targeting gas increased by 1 to reach 94, 5 more than were drilling for gas at this time a year ago.
Of the major oil and gas-producing states, Texas saw the largest increase. A 5-rig increase brought the rig count to 214 for the week.
Louisiana, Oklahoma, and North Dakota each gained a single rig to reach 47, 21, and 15 rigs running, respectively.
The rig count in Pennsylvania decreased by a single rig to 18.
Eight states remained unchanged this week, namely New Mexico, 70; West Virginia, 11; Colorado, 10; Ohio, 10; Utah, 8; California, 7; Wyoming, 4; and Alaska, 3.
Canada’s rig count decreased by 2 units to 56 rigs drilling for the week. The count is 26 more than the 30 units drilling this week a year ago. At 17 units, Canada’s oil-directed rig count is down 2 units for the week. The gas-directed rig count in Canada was unchanged at 39.
