Baker Hughes: US rig count up 2 units to 432
The US drilling rig count increased 2 units to reach 432 rigs working for the week ended Apr. 9, according to Baker Hughes data. The count is down 170 units from the 602 rigs working this time a year ago.
The number of rigs drilling US oil-directed rigs were unchanged from last week at 337 units. This time a year ago, 504 units were drilling for oil. Rigs targeting gas increased by 2 to reach 93, 3 fewer than were drilling for gas at this time a year ago.
Of the major oil and gas-producing states, Utah saw the largest increase. A 2-rig increase brought the rig count to 8 for the week.
Oklahoma and Ohio each gained a single rig to reach 20 and 10 rigs running, respectively.
Rig counts in Louisiana and Wyoming decreased by a single to 46 and 4 working rigs, respectively.
Eight states remained unchanged this week, namely Texas, 209; New Mexico, 70; Pennsylvania, 19; North Dakota, 14; West Virginia, 11; Colorado, 10; California, 7; and Alaska, 3.
Canada’s rig count decreased 11 units to 58 rigs drilling for the week. The count is 23 more than the 35 units drilling this week a year ago. At 19 units, Canada’s oil-directed rig count is down 5 units for the week. The gas-directed rig count in Canada was down 6 units to 39.
