DTE Midstream, a non-utility business under DTE Energy, announced this week that it intends to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, with a major milestone of 30 percent reductions within the next decade.
“With this announcement, we are committing to do our part to address climate change,” David Slater, DTE Midstream president and COO, said. “DTE Midstream’s goal not While DTE Midstream has partnered with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) since 2016 through its Methane Challenge Program to reduce methane emissions from natural gas operations, it now intends to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at large by approximately 3.5 million metric tons in its operations each year by 2050. The company intends to pursue things like greater integration of carbon capture strategies to achieve this.
Currently, DTE Midstream operates 900 miles of natural gas transmission lines and 1,450 miles of gathering lines. DTE Energy intends to spin the company off into its own business later this year.
