Nexans to supply umbilicals for BP’s greater Tortue Ahmeyim project
McDermott has awarded a contract to Nexans for the supply of approximately 100 km subsea umbilicals and accessories for BP’s Greater Tortue Ahmeyim natural gas project offshore Mauritania and Senegal.
It is worth reminding that McDermott, together with Baker Hughes, was last March put in charge of delivering subsea umbilicals, risers and flowlines and subsea production system equipment for the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim natural gas project.
Nexans said in a statement The electrical cables and fiber optics will be manufactured at Nexans Norway plant in Rognan and the umbilicals will be developed, manufactured and tested at Nexans Norway specialized plant in Halden. The delivery will take place in 2021, Nexans said.
Vincent Dessale, Senior Executive Vice President for Subsea and Land Systems at Nexans said: “The Greater Tortue Ahmeyim contract is of strategic importance to Nexans in maintaining a market position in the West African region as well as being a part of a new, ultra-deepwater gas development.”
The Tortue field is located approximately 120 km offshore the coast of Mauritania and Senegal straddling the maritime border, in 2,850 m water depth. The subsea system includes a total of 4 wells at first gas, clustered at The production system ties back approximately 70 km to a spread moored FPSO unit positioned at the shelf edge in 100-120 m water depth. The FPSO undertakes gas pre-treatment before exporting the gas 35 km to a nearshore hub and terminal facility where the gas is liquefied and offloaded to LNG carriers.
