Norway's Equinor closes $470 million sale of gas field stakes

Norway's Equinor said Friday it had completed the sales of two non-core gas assets Both deals were first announced in October as Equinor looked to offload low-priority assets.

The first was the sale of Equinor's 77.8% operated interest in the King Lear discovery in the Norwegian North Sea to Aker BP for $250 million.

The second was its sale of a non-operated 42.38% stake in the Tommeliten Alpha gas field and its 30% interest in block PL044 to Poland's PGNiG for $220 million.

At the time of the agreements to sell, Equinor said by divesting non-core assets it could "unlock capital for investment in projects that offer higher returns for Equinor."

King Lear -- described by Aker BP as Aker BP said its aim in developing King Lear would be to provide additional gas for injection into the nearby Ula oil field.

King Lear -- which is located approximately 50 km south of the Ula field center in production licences 146 and 333 -- was discovered in 1989.

The remaining 22.2% stake in King Lear is held by France's Total.

At Tommeliten -- which has recoverable reserves of 13 Bcm -- PGNiG said the acquisition would allow it to increase gas production from its Norwegian assets by 0.5 Bcm/year.
