South Korea’s November LNG imports rise 19.1 pct
South Korea, the world’s third buyer of liquefied natural gas (LNG), received 3.95 million tonnes of the chilled fuel in November, a rise of 19.1 percent year-on-year.
Compared to the previous month, LNG imports rose 12.7 percent, according to the customs data.
The data shows that South Korea paid an average of $11.20 per million British thermal units for LNG last month. This compares to $7.72 per mmBtu in November last year.
Qatar, the world’s top LNG producer, remained the dominant source of South Korean imports with 1.09 million tonnes of the chilled fuel imported from Qatar in October, a rise of 22.8 percent Australia was the second-largest LNG supplier to Korea last month with 851,703 mt, followed by Malaysia with 533,686 mt and US that supplied 526,247 mt.
The remaining volumes imported into South Korea last month were sourced from Oman, Russia, Nigeria, Indonesia and Brunei.
In the January-November period, South Korea received 39.36 million tonnes of LNG, a rise of 17.9 percent when compared to the same period in 2017, the customs data shows.
