Analysts expect government natural-gas data scheduled for release Thursday to show that stockpiles decreased last week by more than average for this time of year.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration is expected to report gas-storage levels fell by 85 billion cubic feet during the week ended Dec. 7, according to the average forecast of 14 analysts, brokers and traders surveyed by The Wall Street Journal.
For the Dec. 7 week, the median gas-storage estimate is for a decrease of 85.5 bcf. Estimates range from a decline of 76 bcf to 98 bcf.
The gas-storage estimate for Dec. 7 compares to 59 bcf taken from storage in the same week last year and a five-year average withdrawal of 79 bcf for that week.
