DJ Nigerian Oil Industry is Growing Again, Official Says
The Nigerian oil industry is on the rebound, with crude and condensate production expected to reach 2.3 million barrels a day in the first quarter of 2019, a senior Nigerian oil official said Thursday at the annual Argus global crude summit in Geneva. The official said that production was on the rise as a result of direct government funding being restored, legacy issues renegotiated, insurgency and vandal activities contained and alternate evacuation routes planned. At the same time, Nigeria has widened its export base, the official said. While Europe still remains the largest destination for Nigerian crude, Asia and the far east are becoming important hubs. India was the largest single buyer of Nigerian crude in 2018, at nearly 20%, while the U.S. took roughly 8% of Nigerian oil.
