Total to Keep Running Company Total SA, the French oil giant, is planning to continue operating as though oil prices were at $50 a barrel in spite of a recent rally in crude prices, according to HSBC. Like many large oil and gas companies, Total plans to invest conservatively and use excess free cash flow to reduce debt rather than reinvest in new projects as oil prices surge.
