Hurricane Lane 'Threatens Energy Infrastructure'

The government's Energy Information Administration warns Hurricane Lane "threatens energy infrastructure" as it approaches Hawaii, noting the state has two operating refineries, the Par Petroleum Kapolei refinery and the Island Energy Kapolei refinery, which together have a processing capacity of 148k bpd. "Hawaii imports nearly all of the energy it consumes, mostly as petroleum," it says. It also notes more than 68% of Hawaii's utility-scale electricity generation is from petroleum-fired power plants, with coal and wind making up another 14% and 7%, respectively. "If Hurricane Lane makes landfall, it would be the first major hurricane to make landfall in Hawaii in 26 years," the EIA says.
