U.S. Crude Oil Inventories Fall Less Than Forecast
U.S. inventories of crude oil decreased by less than analysts were expecting for the week ended Aug. 3, and gasoline stockpiles unexpectedly increased, according to data released Wednesday by the Energy Information Administration.
Crude-oil stockpiles fell by 1.4 million barrels to 407.4 million barrels, and remain about 1% below the five-year average for this time of year, the EIA said. Analysts surveyed by The Wall Street Journal had predicted crude supplies would fall by 2.3 million barrels from the previous week.
Gasoline stockpiles rose by 2.9 million barrels, to 233.9 million barrels, while analysts in the survey were expecting levels to fall by 1.6 million barrels from the previous week.
